W. Werner, U. Wutzler, M. Venner, H. Sperschneider, R. Börner, J. Schubert

The aim of this report is to introduce the strategy of enlightenment of potential donors and recipients in preparation and carrying out a living related renal transplantation. The new Transplant law allows organ procurement from living donors if the persons are of age and able to agree in the whole procedure. First of all potential donors must be suitable medically and psychologically. Commercial aspects in connection with the planned donation must be excluded.

Risks and long term outcome of the donor should be explained in particular within the bounds of enlightenment. Living related renal transplantation is unproblematic in attention of the targets of the German Transplant Law and after extensive enlightenment of donor and recipient. The strategy of enlightenment of our center is examined legaly and applied successfully in numerous cases.

Key words: Kidney transplantation, living donor, psychology
