Assessment of Regional
Blood Flow by Intra-operative Visualization Using Indocyanine
Green in Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
S. Beholz, H.
Grubitzsch, H.-G. Wollert, L. Eckel
Coronary artery bypass grafting is by far the most often performed procedure in open heart surgery in Germany and worldwide. For Germany the number of peripheral venous anastomoses can be calculated to be about 100.000 in 1995 and more than 140.000 in 1996, respectively although there is an increase in the use of arterial grafts. Quality of distal anastomoses is highly relevant for the result of revascularisation. Quality control of these anastomoses can be performed by postoperative angiography, which is related to possible complications of allergic reactions and renal failure. Intra-operative assessment of regional blood flow and quality control of revacularisation is easily possible by use of indocyanine green.
Key words: coronary artery bypass grafting, quality control, indocyanine green, arteriel grafts, complete revascularisation
